Palaeography

Letters of the archaic alphabet of Thera: Alpha: diagonal crossbar starting from the lower left bottom. Iota: three curvilinear bars. San: used for the sibilant sound.

Commentary

The name, known from various occurrences throughout Greece, also occurs on the island in inscription no. 1427 and, according to Hiller in Suppl., likely in graffito no. 546.
